Good governance can only be achieved through People’s participation in government, not only by voting, but a process of open communication and feed back mechanism by which they could hold government accountable.
This will keep public officials on their toes in adhering to their electioneering promises and justify the mandate of the people.
The Chief Whip of the State of Osun House of Assembly, Mr Tunde Olatunji made the comment during a visit to the residents of Tonkere Orile village, in Ife North Local Government, where he flagged off the ” Village Square Interactive Session ” tagged “VISION with Tunde Olatunji”.
Mr Olatunji told the excited crowd that government acknowledged the fact that power resided in them and the purpose of government was for the welfare and security of the people, no matter how remote their location may be, neither does the political party they belong to matters.
He said ,”we are not in government for the lust of power or for quest of office, we are in government for a generational assignment to put governance and power in the hand of the people, build functional society that works for all and leave a legacy of impact “.
Residents of the agrarian community who trooped out enmasse to receive the legislator described the visit as soul lifting and an evidence that they were not only being remembered during elections.
The People of the Tonkere Orile Community in Ife North Constituency where Mr Olatunji represents expressed gratitude to Governor Gboyega Oyetola for the rehabilitation of the basic health Centre in the Community.
During the highly educative, revealing and inspiring visit, the people spoke on many issues affecting them cutting across education, security, motorable roads to their farms, while the Chief Whip assured them of Governor Oyetola administration’s commitment to restoration of values, youth development and other areas of their concern.
The most emotional point of the event was the revelation by a nine year old boy who said, “Honorable, sitting down and touching you is the best thing that has happened to me. I promised to read my books and be serious in school so that I can become like you.”
